Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions about the SPARK journey answered

Getting Started

What is Ignite Curiosity?
Ignite Curiosity is a learning community that guides people of all ages on a transformative journey from exploration to self-discovery. We help learners discover their "spark" - that unique passion that ignites their curiosity - through hands-on STEAM activities, supportive community connections, and immersive learning experiences. Whether you're 8 or 80, we believe everyone deserves to explore, discover their passions, and become a lifelong curious learner.
What is the SPARK Learning System?
The SPARK Learning System is our unique approach to education that prioritizes exploration and self-discovery over traditional instruction. SPARK stands for the journey of finding what ignites your passion. Instead of lectures and tests, learners try lots of different activities across multiple fields - from coding to art, business to storytelling - until they discover what truly excites them. Then they dive deeper through focused sessions, community engagement, and immersive camps. It's learning designed around curiosity, not curriculum.
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple and pressure-free! First, join our Curiosity Hive to connect with fellow learners and coaches. Then browse our SPARK areas and try activities that sound interesting. Don't worry if you don't know what you want to explore yet - that's exactly the point! The more you try, the closer you get to finding your spark. You can also book a Curiosity Coach who will guide you through your exploration journey.
Is there an age requirement?
Ages 8 to 80 are welcome! Curiosity has no age limit. We've designed our programs to support learners at every stage of life - from young students just beginning their educational journey, to career changers exploring new possibilities, to retirees pursuing passions they never had time for before. Whether you're helping a child discover their interests or rediscovering your own at any age, you belong here.
How much does it cost?
Our basic exploration resources and community access are free to ensure that everyone can begin their curiosity journey regardless of financial circumstances. We believe education is a basic right for everyone. Some advanced programs, Curiosity Camps, and specialized coaching sessions may have associated costs, but we offer scholarships and sliding-scale options. Contact us to discuss your specific situation - we never want cost to be a barrier to discovery.

Remember: No commitment. No pressure. You can try activities, change directions, take breaks, and explore at your own pace. This is your journey of discovery.

The SPARK Journey

What are SPARK Sessions?
SPARK Sessions are focused, hands-on learning experiences where you dive deeper into subjects that interest you. Unlike traditional classes with lectures and tests, SPARK Sessions are designed around exploration and application. You'll work on real projects, use professional tools and software, and learn by doing in quiet, peaceful environments that encourage self-directed discovery. Sessions are guided but flexible, allowing you to explore at your own pace and follow your curiosity wherever it leads.
How long does it take to find my spark?
There's no set timeline - and that's by design! Some people discover their spark within weeks, others take months or even years of exploration. The journey itself is valuable, teaching you about yourself, your interests, and how you learn best. We encourage you to try many different activities without pressure to commit to any particular path. Your spark will reveal itself through genuine interest and excitement, not forced decisions. Remember: this isn't a race, it's a journey of self-discovery.
Can I switch between learning paths?
Absolutely! Switching paths isn't just allowed - it's encouraged. Part of finding your spark is discovering what doesn't resonate with you. You might start exploring programming, then switch to creative arts, then find your true passion in business or finance. Many learners discover unexpected connections between different fields. There's no commitment required, and changing direction is a natural, healthy part of the exploration process. Your path is yours to design.
What if I don't know what I want to explore?
That's perfectly normal - and exactly why we created the SPARK system! Not knowing what you want to explore is the starting point, not a problem to solve. We recommend trying a little bit of everything: spend a few hours coding, try designing something creative, explore business concepts, experiment with storytelling. Cast a wide net at first. You'll naturally gravitate toward activities that engage you. Our Curiosity Coaches can also help guide your initial exploration by suggesting areas based on brief conversations about your general interests and personality.
What is the Curiosity Hive?
The Curiosity Hive is our global network of learners, coaches, and lifelong curious minds who support each other on their discovery journeys. It's a place to share what you're exploring, celebrate breakthroughs, get unstuck when you're confused, find collaboration partners, and connect with people who share your interests. Using "Hive Mentality," community members motivate and inspire each other, creating a supportive environment where curiosity thrives. Ages 8 to 80 learn and grow together here.

Programs & Support

What are Curiosity Camps?
Curiosity Camps are our signature immersive learning experiences where passion meets intensive exploration. After you've identified your spark areas through initial exploration, camps allow you to dive deep into subjects you love with extended focus and cutting-edge tools. You'll collaborate with fellow learners who share your interests, work on real-world projects, and experience what it means to be fully immersed in creative, mindful learning. Camps accelerate your growth and deepen your understanding of who you are and what excites you.
What is a Curiosity Coach?
A Curiosity Coach is a guide who supports you through every stage of your learning journey. Unlike traditional teachers who lecture and test, coaches help you navigate exploration, ask questions that spark deeper thinking, suggest new areas to try, celebrate your discoveries, and provide encouragement when you're uncertain. Many of our coaches started as learners themselves, discovered their spark through SPARK, and now help others do the same. Coaches work with all ages - guiding children, supporting career changers, and inspiring retirees to continue exploring. Learn more about becoming or working with a coach.
How is this different from traditional school or online courses?
Traditional education tells you what to learn and tests whether you memorized it. Online courses follow a similar model with videos and quizzes. SPARK is fundamentally different: we don't tell you what to learn - we help you discover what genuinely interests you through hands-on exploration. There are no grades, no mandatory curriculum, and no pressure to master subjects you're not passionate about. Instead of sitting through lectures, you try real activities and use professional tools to see what resonates. The goal isn't knowledge accumulation; it's self-discovery and developing a lifelong love of learning driven by genuine curiosity.
Can I get college credit or certification?
While SPARK is designed around discovery rather than credentials, many of the tools and platforms we use (Microsoft, Adobe, Salesforce, SAP, etc.) offer industry-recognized certifications that you can pursue if you choose. Our focus is on helping you find your spark and develop real skills through genuine interest, not on collecting certificates. However, learners who discover their passion often naturally pursue relevant certifications as they deepen their expertise. We're also exploring partnerships with educational institutions for credit recognition. Contact us to discuss specific credential needs.

For Parents & Educators

How can I support my child's curiosity journey?
The best support is creating space for exploration without pressure to succeed or commit. Encourage your child to try many different activities, celebrate their discoveries (even when they discover what they don't like), and resist the urge to push them toward specific paths. Ask questions about what they're learning and what excites them rather than focusing on outcomes. Remember that switching interests is healthy, not flaky - it's part of finding their spark. Consider exploring alongside them or pursuing your own curiosity journey to model lifelong learning. And most importantly: trust the process. Self-discovery takes time.
Can schools integrate the SPARK Learning System?
Yes! We offer partnership programs for schools, libraries, and educational institutions interested in bringing exploration-based learning to their students. We can provide curriculum guidance, teacher training, access to our learning platforms, and support for implementing SPARK Sessions within existing educational frameworks. Many educators are recognizing that traditional lecture-and-test models don't foster genuine curiosity or prepare students for self-directed lifelong learning. Contact us about educational partnerships.
Are there programs for adults/career changers?
Absolutely! Adults and career changers are a huge part of our community. Many people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond come to us feeling stuck in careers they fell into rather than chose, or curious about exploring interests they never had time for. We've had successful professionals discover passions in completely different fields, retirees find new purpose through creative pursuits, and career changers build confidence for complete professional transitions. Age is just a number when you're a lifelong learner. Your curiosity journey can start at any age - in fact, life experience often makes the self-discovery process richer and more meaningful.

Practical Questions

What technology do I need?
For basic exploration, you'll need a computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux) with internet access. Many of our SPARK areas use web-based tools, so a modern web browser is essential. Some specialized areas like programming, creative design, or UX research may benefit from specific software, but we provide guidance on free or low-cost options. Through our partnerships with Microsoft, Adobe, and others, many learners can access professional tools at reduced or no cost. If technology access is a barrier, please reach out - we can help connect you with resources.
How much time commitment is required?
There's no required time commitment - that's part of our "no pressure" philosophy. Some learners explore for a few hours a week, others immerse themselves for several hours daily. The beauty of self-directed learning is that you set the pace. We do recommend giving activities enough time to get past initial frustration (sometimes the spark comes after you push through the awkward beginner phase), but there are no mandatory hours or attendance requirements. Explore when your curiosity pulls you, and take breaks when you need them.
What if I need to take a break?
Taking breaks is completely fine and often beneficial! Life happens, interests shift, and sometimes you need time to process what you've learned before continuing. Your account and progress remain accessible whenever you're ready to return. Many learners take breaks and come back with fresh perspective and renewed curiosity. There are no penalties, deadlines, or expiration dates on your journey. This is lifelong learning - emphasis on "lifelong." Come and go as your life and curiosity dictate.
